About Us
Hello! I'm Mona—a wife of 30 years and a proud mother of five. My youngest is now a senior, preparing to venture out into the world, and it's a beautiful, bittersweet moment. I grew up in both Colorado and Texas, where I learned the art of gardening, canning, and cooking for large gatherings. My dad was a pastor, and my mom, sister, and I often cooked for our church. By the age of 17, I hosted my first solo Thanksgiving dinner for over 100 people—quite the adventure!
Shortly after getting married, my husband and I moved to Hidalgo, Mexico, where we lived for 11 amazing years. During that time, I embraced the rich culture and learned to cook authentic Mexican dishes from talented home chefs. Later, we moved to Chiapas, where I discovered even more Mexican culinary treasures. For nearly 30 years now, I've been exploring and mastering Mexican cuisine, and my passion for it only grows.
About Us
Our culinary journey didn’t stop there. With two daughters engaged to wonderful Indian fiancés, our family has delved into the world of Indian cuisine, learning everything we can about this beautiful and diverse food culture. We also have a deep love for ethnic foods from all over the world—Thai, Puerto Rican, Costa Rican, Salvadoran, and even Czech, as a nod to my family heritage. Cooking these global flavours is one of our greatest joys.
In recent years, I’ve developed a passion for photography, especially food photography. With the guidance of my daughters—both of whom studied photography—and mentors like Joanie Simon (The Bite Shot), The Little Plantation, The Little Rusted Ladle, and Pretty Focused, I've expanded my skills in capturing the beauty of food.
Beyond cooking and photography, I have a deep love for natural health, including herbology, homeopathy, and energy healing. Our family lives on a small farm where we grow our own vegetables and share our space with peacocks, ducks, chickens, rabbits, and cats. Life on the farm is peaceful and fulfilling.
In my free time, I enjoy sipping coffee from my espresso machine, crafting chunky blankets, reading, and travelling in our RV. But the thing I cherish most in life is spending time with my wonderful husband and kids.
